At Electra Sign Ltd., building strong customer relationships is just as important as building great signage, and that’s where Derek Olbrycht shines.

As an Account Executive, Derek works closely with clients from the initial concept through to the final installation. Whether it’s helping businesses choose the right signage solution, coordinating project details, or guiding customers through the process, Derek focuses on making every project smooth and straightforward.

Now entering his seventh year in the sign industry, Derek brings experience, communication, and a customer-first mindset to every project he’s involved with. His role combines sales, project guidance, and relationship building, helping clients feel confident every step of the way.

Derek grew up between southern Ontario, Montreal, and Winnipeg, giving him a broad perspective and an easygoing personality that helps him connect with people from all walks of life. Outside of work, he enjoys playing hockey, golfing, and spending time at the cottage with family and friends, whether at Hillside or his parents’ lake in southern Ontario.

Family is a huge part of Derek’s life. He describes himself as fun, outgoing, and family-oriented, and says his proudest accomplishment is being a father to his two awesome kids. Another highlight was playing Jr. A hockey, an achievement he still looks back on proudly.

When he’s not working or spending time with family, you’ll probably find Derek watching Game of Thrones or The Office, listening to just about any kind of music except death metal, or enjoying a relaxing day at the lake.

EMPTY CUP LED-Lit Channel Letters in Winnipeg

Some storefront signs need extensive adaptation to work effectively in the built environment. Others arrive with a visual identity already perfectly suited for signage. That was the case with this LED-lit channel letter project for EMPTY CUP at 130, 15 Cooper's Town Rd in Winnipeg.

Electra Sign Ltd. fabricated and installed illuminated channel letters that carried the café’s bold branding directly into the storefront. The clean typography and recognizable circular logo translated naturally into dimensional signage, creating strong readability both during the day and after dark.

The finished installation complements the modern exterior of the space while giving the business a sharp nighttime presence along Cooper’s Town Rd. Bright white LED illumination keeps the sign highly visible without overwhelming the clean architectural aesthetic of the building.

Founded in Winnipeg in 2020, EMPTY CUP has grown from a small garage coffee roaster into a recognizable local café brand known for specialty coffee, nitro cold brew, and community-focused experiences. Their emphasis on creativity, connection, and quality made this project a great fit for a clean, minimal signage approach.

LED Lit Monument Sign for Courtyards of River Heights in Winnipeg

When businesses are set farther back from a busy roadway, visibility becomes a major part of the customer experience. A well designed monument sign can help direct traffic, improve tenant recognition, and elevate the overall appearance of a commercial property at the same time.

For Courtyards of River Heights at 1580 Taylor Ave. in Winnipeg, the goal was to create more than a standard tenant directory. This custom LED lit monument sign was designed to give the property a stronger visual presence during both daytime and nighttime hours while keeping the layout clean and easy to read.

The sign features illuminated tenant panels paired with a bold vertical architectural element that helps the structure stand out from passing traffic along Taylor Avenue. Warm integrated lighting adds visibility after dark while complementing the modern look of the development.

Projects like this highlight how commercial signage can become part of a property's identity rather than simply functioning as a list of tenant names. The result is a sign that improves wayfinding while contributing to the overall presentation of the site.
